Practical Placement With A1

Practical placement at A1 Office Fitouts was definitely a worthwhile experience as they specialise in a range of different size and specifications of projects. While I was there I overlooked projects ranging immensely in size and in cost.

A1 was a great size workplace. There are about 20-25 staff in the office, who all work closely together. There is a furniture showroom, an entire cabinet making workshop, and then a designated interior design team, which is rare for commercial office fitout companies.

The staff was really welcoming, approachable and informative, which made me feel very comfortable. They had a positive work ethic and encouraged me to get involved in the day to day tasks of the business.

I was given a project to work on that kept me busy for the week, and allowed me to use my Interior design skills in a creative manner.  It was all relevant to what I am learning in my studies. I developed product knowledge which will be useful for future selection.

I was also given an opportunity to observe a client meeting, which was beneficial to see a real life project being planned.

I enjoyed my time at A1 Office Fitouts because I was in a positive environment, and I was doing practical work that I can add to my folio. It was interesting to learn about the commercial side of interior design. There was never a dull moment working, especially working with Mitch and Karl, who seem to inject fun into every workday.

I’d also like to thank Monika, Chris and Emilio from the commercial design team who were always happy to have a chat and lend me a hand.
